Bach Story – Galileo Chamber Choir

Where did Bach get his brilliant ideas? Joined by a six-piece baroque string orchestra, Galileo Baroque Choir presents “Bach Story”; a concert that uncovers the roots of Johann Sebastian Bach’s genius with inspiring music by his mentors and friends—music that Bach himself would have heard, copied, and studied. The program includes gorgeous and fascinating works by composers from 17th and 18th century Germany, including Buxtehude, Kuhnau, Kerll, and Pachelbel; culminating in Bach’s thrilling early cantata masterpiece, BWV 4 “Christ lag in Todesbanden.”
The concert will take place Sunday, May 18, 7:30 pm at the historic St George’s Round Church, 2222 Brunswick St, Halifax (admission by donation at the door, $30 suggested).
Galileo Baroque Choir is Halifax’s very own choir dedicated to the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music. Conductor Andrew Pickett holds a M.Mus. in voice from Western University and a graduate diploma from the Royal College of Music. He has studied with early music legends Emma Kirkby, James Bowman, and Michael Chance and performed chamber music and opera in Europe, the United States, and Canada including with the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir. Andrew now serves on the teaching faculty of the Halifax Institute of Traditional and Early Music.
