Lost and Found – Halifax Camerata Singers

In 1986 award-winning ensemble Halifax Camerata Singers made its debut at Halifax City Hall. After 36 seasons with founder Jeff Joudrey at the podium, the choir, begins their 37th Season with new Artistic Director Joel Tranquilla, and embarks on a new beginning.
The new season for the choir begins on Saturday, November 11 (7:30 p.m.) and Sunday November 12 (2:00 p.m.) at St. George’s Anglican, the Round Church, with Lost & Found, a journey through loss and pain as we reach toward hope and healing. This first concert looks at loss: the loss of home in a housing crisis, the devastating loss of a loved one, but also speaks to the resiliency of the human spirit.
Featuring David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Little Match Girl Passion and introducing works by Canadian composers Katerina Gimon, Benjamin Sigerson and Dan Steenburgh, the concert also contrasts Bobby McFerrin’s 23rd Psalm with Mozart’s Veni Sancte Spiritus. Assistant conductor Amelia McMahon conducts both the Mozart and Florence Price’s Resignation.
Tickets for Lost & Found are available from tickethalifax.com, and concert goers can also purchase a two-concert pass (opening nights for both Lost & Found and The Wind’s True Song in June) and save 10%. New for the choir this year, the Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm at St. George’s will be a “Pay What You Can” event, at which we will be collecting donations for Out of the Cold, an association that provides low barrier, people-centred support rooted in anti-oppressive and harm reduction practice.
Halifax Camerata Singers is Atlantic Canada’s leading chamber choir. Supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation, the Province of Nova Scotia/Arts Nova Scotia, Halifax Regional Municipality and individual donors and corporate supporters, the choir has established a stellar reputation by performing exciting choral repertoire from many periods and styles, with special attention to Canadian music. The choir was winner of Music Nova Scotia’s Best Classical Recording in 2016 and nominated for an ECMA in the same category in 2017. The choir also won the Healey Willan Grand Prize in the 2010 National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choir. Camerata often collaborates with chamber ensembles, Symphony Nova Scotia, and other musicians. Their five recordings are for sale at Taz Records, online and through iTunes, and are distributed through Naxos of America, Inc. through Halifax’s Leaf Music catalogue. Camerata was nominated for a 2021 Best Classical Recording by Music Nova Scotia for Music of the Spheres.
