This will be an exciting event which takes us back in time – to a year in the life of Halifax. The celebrated Rhapsody Quintet (rhapsodyquintet.com), and actor Jeremy Webb take us back to New Year’s Eve as Halifax ushers in 1917.
Through music, the drama and day to day life of Halifax during WWI comes alive in this portrait of the city in the months leading up to the Explosion. The church, the concert hall, patriotic tunes and military music sustained a population struggling with the effects of war, who had no idea of the imminent disaster facing them. We’ll pay tribute to the place of music in the life of our city in that pivotal year, culminating with a new work created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion by Nova Scotia composer, Christopher Palmer. One hundred years later, we remember this tragic event in our city’s history. Don’t miss this moving commemorative performance!
