Moonlight Sound Design – Aeolian Singers

October 29, 2023 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

$10 – $30

Kicking off their 47th year, Aeolian Singers announce Fall concert

With two shows scheduled for October, the Aeolian Singers are poised to start their 2023/24 choir season with Moonlight Sound Design, an immersive soundscape marrying poetic text and music for choir and percussion.

For over 47 years, the Aeolian Singers have enjoyed presenting programs that have a narrative or a common thread that connects their audiences to an emotion, a memory, or a place in time. This year, Artistic Director, Heather Fraser, has developed a captivating program which will highlight the magic of the moon:
“The Moon is associated with wisdom and mysticism across cultures and traditions. The power of the moon’s energy and influence is undeniable, and we experience the moon-earth connection in our bodies, ocean tides, spring planting, and fall harvest. In this program, the music weaves together the magic of moonlit experiences.” Heather Fraser, Artistic Director, the Aeolian Singers

The choir is thrilled to be joined by their season artist in residence, percussionist Zoë Strutt, and Suzanne Lemieux on oboe. The program paints a diverse soundscape from ethereal, meditative music for marimba and vibraphone, frame drums and cymbals that summon ancient goddesses, and sleigh bells for shimmery Nordic nights.

Fittingly, the fall concerts will take place around the full moon in October, the Hunters moon, reaching its full peak on the eve of their Saturday show in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. With song, percussion, imagery, and light, audiences can expect an immersive experience, allowing them to connect more wholly with the music and these evocative texts.

About the Aeolian Singers Give in to the story, get lost in the sound
The Aeolian Singers is a provincially registered non-profit society and have been part of the fabric of Nova Scotia’s choral community since 1976. With a focus on storytelling and building community, the choir seeks to find a balance between sharing music that is accessible and familiar, and performing works that will challenge both their singers and audience to discover something new, gain perspective or grow in understanding.
