Music for the Earth, Cantabile Choral Society

November 2 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

$20
Cantabile is thrilled to invite you to “Music for the Earth”, its season-opening concert on Saturday, November 2nd at 7pm at First United Church, Truro.  This event is truly not to be missed, featuring the world premiere of renowned NS composer Paul Aitken’s “Missa Pro Terra”, a mass for the earth, sung by the Cantabile Singers, the Mount Allison University Choral Society, soloists Heather Bruce and Chris Bowman, and the brand new Cantabile Children’s Choir, conducted by the composer.
Also included on this program will be earth and ecology inspired selections by the Cantabile Singers (Chris Bowman and Belinda Adshade, artistic team), the brand-new Cantabile Children’s Choir (Bette Pring and Ibukun Olomodosi, artistic team), and the Mount Allison University Choral Society (Dr. Kiera Galway, conductor).
Speaking of “Missa Pro Terra”, Paul Aitken writes:  “Day after day, I heard about unprecedented drought, rainfall, heat, hurricanes, cyclones, and firestorms … When I began seriously thinking about what form a climate-focused work would take, I wanted to create something that could be quite universal… It’s a call for us to do better, to be better people, and to make significant decisions as a global family in order to turn this climate crisis around”.
Cantabile is honoured to have been asked to premiere this work, which they will take, with Paul, to Carnegie Hall in New York City this coming March.
Tickets are $20 ($5 students), available at https://ticketstripe.com/MusicForTheEarth , from the First United Church office (711 Prince Street), from choristers, and at the door.  The public is encouraged to get their tickets early to hear over 120 singers and instrumentalists making a joyful noise together!
