Galileo Chamber Choir “Queen of Flowers” April 28
On April 28, Galileo Chamber Choir presents a burgeoning array of music for spring with “Queen of Flowers.” The program includes verdant a cappella gems for choir by composers from the 16th, 17th and 20th centuries, including Byrd, Monteverdi, Arcadelt and Schütz, and featuring Janequin’s hilarious Le Chant des Oyseaulx.
Galileo Chamber Choir, founded in 2018, is dedicated to the performance of Renaissance and Baroque music. Conductor Andrew Pickett holds an M.Mus. in voice from Western University and a graduate diploma from the Royal College of Music, and has studied with early music legends Emma Kirkby, James Bowman, and Michael Chance. He has performed chamber music and opera in Europe, Canada and the United States, and has been a member of numerous professional ensembles including the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir. Andrew now serves on the teaching faculty of the Halifax Institute of Traditional and Early Music.
The concert will take place Sunday, April 28, 7:30 pm at the historic St George’s Round Church, 2222 Brunswick St, Halifax (admission by donation, $20 suggested).
