Annapolis Voices Choral Society presents Voices of Winter, Sunday, December 4th.
Director Deirdre Morrell-Ormerod suggests “the Christmas story is musically presented from many points of view”, from the narrative of the beast of burden which carried Mary to Bethlehem to give birth to Jesus (Donkey Carol – John Rutter) to The Twelve Days of Christmas (Bob Chilcott). Woven throughout the program are carols of Appalachian, Basque, Spanish, Celtic, Medieval and Contemporary repertoire.
In keeping with the choir’s objectives of “nurturing the next generation of choral singers in a multi-generational chorus” Annapolis Treblemakers adds its vital energy to the performance with “You’re as cuddly as a cactus; you’re as charming as an eel, Mr. Grinch.”
In contrast, a winter poem by Elinor Wylie, set to music by American composer Randall Thompson, Velvet Shoes invites us to “walk in the white snow in a soundless space…” taking us into the hush of peace.
Directed by Deirdre Morrell-Ormerod, accompanied by Elizabeth Harwood and other musical guests, this concert will be held at St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal, December 4th, 3:00pm. Tickets ($15 Adults, $5 Youth) are available by calling Lee Jamieson (902) 532-5804.
