Seton Conservatory Choir, under the artistic direction of Garth MacPhee, is very proud to present its
annual fall concert on Sunday, 27 November, 7:00 pm at the Lilian Piercey Concert Hall of the Maritime
Conservatory of Performing Arts, located at 6199 Chebucto Road.
The exciting piano accompaniment is masterfully executed by Dean Bradshaw, the choir’s long serving
collaborative pianist.
One of the featured works is the spectacular “Mid-Winter Songs” composed by Morten Lauridsen in
1980, inspired by British poet, Robert Graves. This choral cycle consists of five deeply expressive
movements, at times dramatic, prayer like, or playful.
The second featured work is the well- loved favourite, “A Ceremony of Carols”, composed by Benjamin
Britten. This work has an interesting Halifax connection. Britten lived for three years in America and
whilst returning home in 1942 his ship made a stop in Halifax, where he happened to find a poetry
anthology entitled, “The English Galaxy of Shorter Poems”. This little book inspired the composition of a
song collection, which later developed into a major choral work for Christmas.
Tickets for this concert are $20 regular, and $10 for MCPA students. They will be available from choir
members, or by contacting the front desk, by phone (902-423-6995) or by email at
