Goodbye to Katharine Kyle Vingoe-Cram

The NSCF wishes a fond farewell to our staff member, Katharine Kyle Vingoe-Cram, as they move on to the next stage and start a new life in Ottawa. We wish Katharine Kyle all the best.

“I loved  my time at NSCF! As a visual artist and arts administrator, I was new to the choir world when I started in 2017. I have since become an avid fan of choral music. One of the highlights of my time with NSCF was being a Chaperone at Youth Choir Camp. Sing Summer is truly a special program and I know we will get through these tough times and join together in song once more.”  – Katharine Kyle

Nova Scotia Choral Federation Sing Summer Cancellation

It is with great sadness that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation (NSCF) has made the decision to cancel our Sing Summer Camps this year. This past week, the NSCF was informed that the Berwick United Church Camp would not be opening this summer; the NSCF fully supports the Camp’s decision as the health and safety of our choral (and broader) community is paramount.

For those that have already paid registration fees for Sing Summer, a survey will be sent out to inquire about your fees. Registrants may request a refund or choose to make a donation and receive a charitable tax-receipt. If you do not receive the survey link but have paid fees for any of our three camps, please contact us at ryan@nscf.ca.

The NSCF would also like to extend sincere thanks to those that have made donations to our organization. Your support is greatly appreciated during these troubling times and allows us to continue to support the choral community in the best way we can.

Nova Scotia Choral Federation Summer Programming Update

Given the uncertain timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation (NSCF) wanted to update our members on our plans for Summer programming. At this point, the NSCF plans to continue with the Nova Scotia Youth Choir and our Sing Summer Camps as scheduled. We will be closely monitoring the situation, and make a final decision regarding cancellations closer to the program dates.

As a non-profit organization, the NSCF depends on registrations for our programs to ensure that they are financially viable. For this reason, the NSCF asks that interested parties register for our programs to express interest but refrain from making any payments at this time. For those that have already paid registration fees for our Summer programs, refunds or a charitable tax-receipt will be made available to you should these programs be cancelled.

The NSCF would also like to extend sincere thanks to those that have chosen to donate registration fees from our cancelled Spring programs. Your support is greatly appreciated during these troubling times and allows us to continue to support the choral community in the best way we can.

Office Closure due to COVID-19 – Update

Dear Members,

An update on our office closure:

Staff will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. The office will be closed and access to photocopy services suspended during this time. Our re-open date will be continually re-assessed as the situation develops.

We are still working hard on processing a high volume of refunds for Sing Out and CCNS. We ask for your patience as we work to get these to you as soon as possible.

You can reach Tim Callahan-Cross, Executive Director, (tim@nscf.ca), Ryan Henwood, Program Coordinator, (programs@nscf.ca) and Katharine (Kyle) Vingoe-Cram, Administrator, (katharine@nscf.ca) at their respective email addresses, which they will be checking regularly from home.

We will continue to provide updates on the choral community on our Facebook. Many upcoming choral events have been cancelled or postponed – we have tried to make note of the cancellations we are aware of in our Events Calendar.

If you are looking to sign out music during this time, let us know by email and we will see what we can accomplish.

All the best & Stay safe,

The NSCF Team

Halifax Musical II Workshop

A Notice from our member, TE Lamothe:

Halifax, the Musical (the first 200 years) with music and lyrics by T. E. Smith-Lamothe, will hold it’s second “from scratch” choral workshop Sunday, 29 March, 1 PM at the Halifax Central Library, BMO Community Room (2nd floor).  Anyone who wants to “sing their way through Halifax history” as part of a “chorus of Haligonians” is asked to RSVP to HalifaxMusical@gmail.com to receive links and an introduction to the songs which have chorus lines.  The workshop is experimental, as some of the music/lyrics have never been sung “live” before.  This is a chance to celebrate our city in music and be part of the very beginning of a musical project.
