It was Christmas in July as soprano Nicole Jordan who was home from Rotterdam for a few weeks, and the Halifax Camerata Singers recorded a gorgeous Jeff Enns setting of the Wexford Carol with guest cellist, Shimon Walt.

Nicole Jordan, Soprano, sang with the Nova Scotia Youth Choir the early 1990s and is helping to support the Nova Scotia Youth Choir through the Louise Simons Memorial Scholarship Fund. The LSSF helps support and develop leadership skills of a quart at of singers in the NSYC who become section leaders and mentors for the choir.

Xara Choral Theatre Ensemble is Auditioning Singers for the 2016-17 Season

The premiere ensemble of our organization, comprised of talented women ages 18-30. Our performers have varied backgrounds in choral music, theatre, and movement, but all are committed to excellence in interdisciplinary performance.  Xara isn’t just a performance ensemble, it’s a way of life!

Xara Choral Theatre Ensemble rehearses on Sunday afternoons in Halifax from 1:15-5:30pm. To book an audition time or for more information, send us an email message.

Your audition will consist of four elements:
•Memorized performance of two songs to be sung without piano accompaniment:
•one classical
•one jazz/pop/folk
•Voice range testing and some interaction with printed music provided by Xara’s Artistic Team
•Work with a piece of dramatic text provided by Xara’s Artistic Team
•A movement activity to help us get to know your comfort with physical performance

Please bring a copy of your music resume (including all past music, theatre, dance, gymnastics, or other movement experience) and the names/contact info of two people who can serve as references for your musical skills.

Dalhousie Collegium Cantorum Auditioning New Members for their 2016-17 Concert Season

For their 2016-17 concert season, Dalhousie Collegium Cantorum will be preparing performances of Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Christmas Mass as well as Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”, and the choir is auditioning for new members. Conducted by Gary Ewer, and accompanied by Tara Scott, Collegium Cantorum is a 90-voice mixed choral ensemble that operates as a community outreach program of the Dalhousie Fountain School of Performing Arts. Auditions for the choir’s new season will be held throughout the month of August, and positions are available in all sections.

Aeolian Singers – Audition now!

Are you a woman who loves to sing and perform with choral singing experience? The Aeolian Singers are holding auditions for committed choristers for the 2016-17 choral season, which begins at the end of August.

The choir recently completed its 40th anniversary, and has announced that choral conductor Heather Fraser will be joining the choir as Artistic Director, commencing with the 2017-18 season. For the coming season, the choir will be led by Assistant Conductor Joanne Slack for the fall term, and by music educator/choral conductor Fran Farrell from January through May of 2017.

Bay Chorale 10th Anniversary Season Launch

baychorale1The Bay Chorale is embarking on our 10th season of making choral music in St. Margaret’s Bay. We welcome new members to join us on September 14 to learn about our choir and conduct a short voice placement session with our Artistic Director, Christina Murray. This evening is open to prospective singers joining us for the full term (women’s chorus) or partial term (men’s chorus).

Our 2016-17 season includes a new twist on programming our holiday concert will feature a mens chorus, with separate repertoire presented by a womens chorus. Mens voices are always in demand in community choirs, and we hope that this new focussed singing opportunity offers a unique way for returning, alumni and new male voices to participate in The Bay Chorale. Registration for the mens chorus will remain open until late October. Four intensive weekly rehearsals will lead up to dress rehearsal and concert in early December.
