Three Terrific Choirs—One Audition!

Galileo Baroque Choir, St. George’s Round Church Choir and the University of King’s College Choir will be holding joint auditions on January 14/15. 

Singers in all sections will be considered for any and all of the these three highly-regarded ensembles—you only have to audition once. In some cases, paid positions are available.

Galileo Baroque Choir, directed by Andrew Pickett, is Halifax’s choir devoted to the historically informed performance of Baroque choral music. The choir rehearses Sunday evenings, with several concerts with Baroque instruments throughout the year.

St. George’s Round Church Choir, directed by Garth MacPhee, serves a historic Anglican church in the heart of Halifax with a well-established music program focusing on Renaissance polyphony. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings and regular services are Sunday mornings, with additional special services throughout the year.

The University of King’s College Chapel Choir, directed by Neil Cockburn, includes students at King’s College and Dalhousie University as well as non-student lay clerks who act as mentors for the student choristers. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, with afternoon services Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (4 pm call) during the academic year. The choir also sings occasional special services and concerts.

South Shore Chorale – Singers Wanted!

The South Shore Chorale (SATB Choir for 50 years) are inviting all singers but especially TENOR voices to join us as we prepare for early March concerts. We will be meeting for weekly rehearsals starting Sunday January 8th at 2pm at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Phoenix St. Bridgewater.
With our new Artistic Director, Amelia McMahon, we will celebrate light returning throughout the winter months with a program that focuses on the newness of spring. With choral classics by Kirchner, Coates, di Lasso, and Thompson, this concert also features Rajaton, Stan Rogers and Old Man Luedecke arrangements.

“Ceremony of Carols” Seton Conservatory Choir is inviting experienced singers to join its ranks!
Rehearsals will resume at 7:00 pm every Wednesday evening, at the Maritime Conservatory of
Performing Arts, beginning 18 January, 2023. Good vocal production and sight reading skills are pre-

Singers Wanted – Chebucto Community Singers Looking for Tenors and Basses

The Chebucto Community Singers are looking for tenor and bass members. We are returning to regular rehearsals on September 27th 7-9 at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 3311 Ashburn Avenue, Halifax with COVID policies and protocols in place. Masks will not be required but are encouraged; proof of vaccination is required. Our choir has approximately 60 members and has enjoyed 45 years of making music together. We sing a broad range of repertoire from classical to Broadway.  

The Choir Director, Louise Grinstead, would like basses and tenors who may be interested in being a member of this choir to come to our registration on September 20, at 7:00 PM for an audition at the above noted rehearsal space. Those auditioning should have experience in choral singing and be fluent sight readers or have a strong ear for music.

EnChor East (formerly Bedford Singers) is an SATB community choir with a very long choral history.  We are looking to recruit experienced singers in all sections!  Tenors and basses are particularly welcome!  You will find this choir to be very friendly and enthusiastic, the perfect combination to sing away the CoVid blues!  We rehearse every Tuesday evening, 7:30 pm at Bedford Baptist Church, 158 Rocky Lake Drive.   We look forward to seeing you!

Soundtrax is an auditioned choir featuring sopranos/altos from grades 10-12 and tenors/basses from grades 9-12. We meet once a week on Thursdays at Citadel High School from approximately 4:30-6:30 to explore a wide array of music, focusing on three key components: excellence, community, and joy. If you love to sing, love connecting with others, and love having fun, this choir is for you! Jazz Voices
Jazz Voices is an auditioned chamber choir that meets once a week from approximately 4:30-6:30 at Oxford School on Tuesdays. Singers in this soprano/alto/tenor/bass (SATB) group focus on jazz and pop music, microphone techniques, and improvisation and will often have had significant choral experience at the SATB level. Teamwork, a strong commitment to excellence, taking risks, and a genuine love of singing are fundamental aspects of choristers in this group. Experienced Choral Singers Needed – Seton Conservatory Choir

Seton Conservatory Choir, under the direction of Garth MacPhee, is eager to welcome new singers to its musical family! This is an adult SATB choir with a long and distinguished history that performs a wide range of music.  Past repertoire includes Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes, Eine Deutsches Requiem;   Vaughan Williams, Dona nobis pacem; selected works by Eric Whitacre, Hebrew Love Songs; Lauridsen, MidWinter Songs; Britten, Five Flower Songs.

This year’s repertoire will include works by Britten (Choral Dances from Gloriana), and selected works by Bob Chilcott (Pachelbel:Canon), Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen to name but a few.

Rehearsals take place every Wednesday evening, 7:15, at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts, 6199 Chebucto Road, Halifax.
