The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is Looking for Choir Members


The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo is looking for choir members in all sections for our Adult Choir. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be part of the excitement of The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo? If you love to sing, and are in Grade 9 or older, this could be your opportunity to find out!

For the first time in two years, there will be a live show in June/July. Commitment has been received by European groups and planning is well under way. The choir begins rehearsals in May on Sunday evenings. The intensity and frequency in the Scotia Bank Centre begins near the middle of June.  Here is a very early rough draft of the rehearsal schedule:

June 14 – 17           Evening rehearsals – beginning at 1900 hrs
June 18 – 19           Some day and some evening rehearsals (this is when the foreign acts arrive)
June 20 – 22           Evening rehearsals
June 23                     Student Matinee (first dress rehearsal) – begins at 10:00
June 24                     Second Dress rehearsal (Could be afternoon or evening)
June 25                     Preview show 19:00
June 27                     Evening performances 19:00
June 26, July 1-2   Matinee shows 14:00

Some things to consider:

  • sight reading skills are an asset.
  • memorization of all music is required.
  • we perform on a stage built over the arena floor.
  • there will be no social distancing on the stage.
  • while performing, we will not be wearing masks.
  • we move quickly in the dark while loading and unloading the set.
  • costume parts are provided, white shirt/blouses and long black skirts/pants are not.
  • you will receive two complimentary tickets to the Preview show
  • you will receive a cast T-Shirt

Job Posting: Trinity Anglican Church – Music Director & Organist

Trinity Anglican Church in Digby, Nova Scotia is seeking a part time organist and choir director to begin immediately.

Trinity Anglican has a small, energetic and very committed congregation with a special emphasis on our music ministry. Blessed with a small Casavant pipe organ and a Mason Hamblin grand piano,  a 15-member SATB choir performs anthems, hymns and mass settings at the weekly Sunday Eucharist. In addition to a Sunday morning rehearsal, the choir meets weekly for an 1.5 hour rehearsal on a weekday evening.  In addition, the choir performs at several concerts including a summer lunch-hour concert during our busy tourism season. Our concerts usually attract interested music lovers from the broader community and are well attended. Ideal candidates might be a retired or semi-retired organist and choir director who lives in or would like to move to the area and is hoping to keep their toes active by playing, leading the choir and our congregation in weekly worship as well as helping our choir learn and grow. The successful candidate may also  use the church as a space to offer voice, piano and/or organ lessons as well as for personal practice space.

Did you hear the news? The Nova Scotia Choral Federation is thrilled to share that we will be returning to Berwick this year for our usual Sing Summer Camp programming. Joined by guest conductors, Melanie Tellez (JCC) and Mark Sirett (YCC & ACC), this year is sure to be one to remember! All voices are welcome; our Sing Summer Camps where singers of all levels can come together to experience the joy of group singing. Held at the beautiful Berwick United Church Campgrounds, our Sing Summer Camps offer choristers the true camp experience- with the added bonus of a full week of choral rehearsals with our distinguished artistic staff.

Our Sing Summer Camps consist of three streams:

  • Junior Choir Camp (August 14th - 20th, 2022):  For choristers aged 8.5 - 13, unchanged voices (SSA)
  • Youth Choir Camp (August 14th - 20th, 2022): For choristers aged 13-18, changed voices (SATB)
  • Adult Choir Camp (August 22nd -27th , 2022):  For choristers aged 18+ , mixed voices (SATB)

Manitoba Choral Association: Register for the MCA Virtual Choir today!

Calling all Canadian singers—we want you to join the MCA Virtual Choir! Manitoba Choral Association invites singers ages 10 and up from across the country to come together virtually for a fun and unique experience. This year Dr. Jamie Hillman (University of Toronto) will conduct the piece Wide Open Spaces by Canadian composer Sarah Quartel. All voices are welcome; no previous virtual choir experience necessary.​

The cost for adults to participate is $30, and middle and senior years students and university students receive a $10 discount off the regular adult price.  Groups of 10 or more from the same choir or school are eligible for further discounts. Contact MCA for more details on group discounts.

HCC seeks applicants for the position of Artistic Director (AD). The Artistic Director (AD) provides overall artistic leadership and direction for the Hamilton Children’s Choir, including developing the artistic vision for the choir, training programs, performances and programming, and educational and community outreach. The AD collaborates and partners with the Executive Director (ED) to provide leadership to all staff in accordance with the vision, mission and goals of the HCC and to ensure that all organizational goals are met. In addition, the AD is involved in fundraising campaigns, community relations, and Board of Directors and Board Committee liaison.

Chorus Niagara seeks applicants for the position of Managing Director (MD). The primary responsibility of the MD is to manage the operations and financial resources of the organization so as to achieve Chorus Niagara’s vision and mission. The MD reports to the Board and is responsible for supporting the artistic vision of the Artistic Director and implementing policies set by the board.

The Robbie Songs Project: Check Out our New Webpage!


Over the past few years, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation has been busy with commissioning choral arrangements of the music of the late Robbie Smith. Called the Robbie Songs Project, we are excited to share the 27 new choral arrangements from 16 composers across Canada and the United States that we have commissioned so far. We are thrilled to have been able to support local composers through this project and excited that 19 of the arrangements have been picked up by Cypress Choral Music.

Updates to COVID-19 Restrictions – February 9th, 2022

Guidelines for Sports, Arts and Culture

  • professional and amateur sports participants (like players, coaches and referees) and arts and culture participants (like actors, performers and directors) are limited to 60 indoors and outdoors
  • they can have practices, training, regular league games, rehearsals and performances; tournaments are not allowed
  • physical distance is not required; masks are recommended when possible indoors and outdoors
  • spectators are allowed following the formal gathering limit.

Guidelines for Gathering Limits

  • the formal gathering limit for gatherings and events hosted by a recognized business or organization will be 50 per cent of capacity indoors and outdoors during Phase 1. 
  • examples of formal gatherings include festivals, special events, social gatherings, regular faith services, wedding ceremonies, funeral ceremonies and associated visitation, receptions, meetings, training, and spectators at sports events, performances and movie theatres.

Guidelines for Faith Services, Weddings and Funerals

  • regular faith services, weddings, funerals and associated receptions and visitation hosted by a recognized business or organization follow the formal gathering limit
  • performers follow limits for arts and culture participants and masks are recommended for choirs; congregational singing is allowed, but masks are required

The five-day schedule will combine performers and presenters from PODIUM 2020 and new voices for PODIUM 2022, yet another way that this will be a PODIUM like no other as the choral community reimagines, rebuilds and reconnects.

JOB OPPORTUNITY – Bookkeeper Contract Position

The Nova Scotia Choral Federation is the provincially recognized organization whose mandate is to encourage, promote, celebrate and advocate for choral music in Nova Scotia.  We provide programs and services for the choral community and manage our Choral Library which is available as a member benefit.

Nova Scotia Choral Federation is seeking to hire a motivated, experienced individual to oversee and coordinate the bookkeeping and overall accounting services for the organization.

 Are you an experienced Bookkeeper/ Accounting professional interested in working in the creative sector?

This position will:

  • Maintain and balance the general ledger in an accurate, complete, and up-to-date manner
  • Perform all activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, and processing payments
  • Perform account receivable functions including invoicing, deposits, conduct reconciliation of all accounts on an as needed basis
  • This position will perform payroll functions in an accurate and timely manner, and submit payroll taxes as necessary
  • Issuing T4’s and T4A’s as required annually before February 28th and submit HST returns as required
  • Prepare financial reports through collection, analysis, and summarization of data
  • Compile financial information and reporting required for grant reporting, including regular financial reports to funders.
  • Provide all information to auditor annually as needed
  • Recording all year-end entries  in Accounting software as per auditor
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to prepare regular financial reports, and analysis of related statistics to support organizational reporting and decision making.
  • Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work in order to ensure compliance with applicable standards

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent related experience and training
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in accounting and bookkeeping
  • Experience working with not-for-profit organizations
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GAAP
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient skills in Simple Accounting/SAGE 50, Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general leger
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

WORKING ARRANGEMENT

This position offers flexible hours, with a hybrid remote/work from home arrangement (COVID dependent).
Occasional attendance at meetings to assist in providing financial reports and information. (Infrequently)

COMPENSATION

$20-$35/hour  To be determined based on qualifications and experience
Total hours per week are estimated between 8-10 hrs.

TERM This is a contract position.
